- In the Alps, farmers drive cows to the mountain pastures in summer.
This is where the lush grass grows.
The animals wear large bells that can be heard from far away.
In late summer, the cows are brought down from the mountain pastures and returned to the valley.
Cows are herd animals.
Cows eat more than 50 kg of grass a day and can drink up to 180 l of water.
This is how they are able to produce up to 30 l of milk a day, and why they are milked up to twice a day.
